Marios Fournaris

Marios Fournaris is an artist and a PhD candidate in Art History at the School of Visual and Applied Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2010 he graduated as an artist from the same School, where he worked on sculptural form and three-dimensional installations. He continued his postgraduate studies (MFA) at the University of Dundee, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD), in the UK, exploring issues of public and conceptual art, as well as new media. His doctoral thesis is concerned with Arte Povera, the Italian movement of the ‘60s, addressed in relation to the idea of New Humanism. He has participated in many group and solo exhibitions, while his artworks are included in private collections in Greece and abroad, as well as in the permanent collection of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (MOMus-MMCA) and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Florina, Western Macedonia. His scientific interests are focused on issues concerned with the relationship between art and politics, and the relationship between the concepts of the collective and the individual in the second half of the 20th century’s art. He was a founding member of the artistic team “Gameplay” based in the United Kingdom, in 2011-12. Aim of the group was to research and expand the influence of art in the field of everyday life, through performances and actions in public space. In this context, the artists established strong ties with institutions and community members, such as schools, public libraries and people with disabilities. Nowadays, Marios Fournaris is a member of the international group “Sharing Perama” (Μοιραζόμαστε το Πέραμα), which is consisted by artists, curators and art lovers. The group aim to create ties between Perama’s city community and contemporary art.
